Autumn at the Shala 🍂 New Classes, Gatherings & Workshops

I hope you’ve been enjoying the summer and finding some time to rest, recharge and enjoy the longer days. September is almost here, and the Streetly Yoga Shala will soon be opening its doors again — with familiar weekly classes, some new additions, deeper Sunday practices, sound and restorative sessions, and our seasonal gatherings.
Classes begin again from Tuesday 1st September, so here’s a little round-up of what is coming up...
Time to book your next yoga block
The new six-week yoga term begins from Tuesday 1st September, and block booking is now open.
If you already have your regular class, you can book your next block in the usual way — either online through the website or directly through me.
The usual Tuesday and Thursday classes continue, and there is now another opportunity to practise on a Friday morning too.

New Fridays at the Shala
I’m really pleased to be adding two new Friday morning offerings.
Friday Hatha Yoga
9:30–10:45am | block book £63 | drop-in £12.50
A 75-minute mixed-ability Hatha class, suitable for beginners as well as more experienced students. A lovely opportunity to move, breathe and practise together as we head into the weekend.
Friday Stillness
11–11:30am
Free to attend | Optional charitable donation
A simple space to pause at the end of the week. Thirty minutes of meditation, breathing, quiet reflection and gentle practices.
Open to everyone — stay after Friday yoga or simply join us for Stillness.

Healing Sound Bath & Deep Rest
My Friday evening Sound Bath & Deep Rest sessions are also returning.
Come and get cosy, settle into stillness and allow yourself an hour away from the noise and busyness of everyday life.

These nurturing 2½-hour sessions offer time to properly slow down.
We use supported restorative yoga, breathwork, Reiki, deep relaxation and sound to create a warm, quiet space where the body can soften and the mind can settle.

NEW — Sunday Sadhana & Sangha
This is something I have wanted to create for a while.
At the end of each six-week term, I’m opening the Shala for a longer Sunday afternoon where we have more time to practise, rest, explore and talk about yoga beyond the postures.
Sunday 11th October
Sunday 29th November
Sunday Sadhana | 2:45–4:33pm | £22
A 108-minute dedicated practice incorporating gentle mindful movement, pranayama, stillness, a full Yoga Nidra and crystal singing bowl sound bath.
Then we’ll pause for tea and refreshments before...
Sunday Sangha | 5–6pm | Free
A relaxed hour of conversation, curiosity and community.
We might explore yogic philosophy, meditation, mantra, readings, questions or themes that have arisen during our classes.
The Sangha is free to attend, and you are very welcome to come to the Sangha even if you haven’t attended the Sadhana beforehand.
I’m also introducing a Sangha Question Bowl in the Shala, so if something comes up in class that you’d love to understand more deeply, pop your question in and we may explore it together.

Samhain — What We Carry, What We Release
Saturday 31st October
2:30–6:30pm | £47
Community Fireside Gathering | 6:30–7:30pm | Free
This year Samhain becomes a spacious half-day seasonal immersion.
As nature moves towards winter, we’ll explore the themes of what we carry with us, what has completed its season, and what we are ready to lay down.
Our afternoon will weave together:
• seasonal yoga and breathwork
• Samskara - patterns and impressions we carry and Aparigraha - the practice of letting go
• journalling and reflection
• creating a small natural Samhain broom
• ritual and remembrance
• our shared Samhain altar
• Yoga Nidra
• crystal singing bowls
• candlelight and stillness
ÂŁ47 per person
The afternoon will be followed by an optional free Community Fireside Gathering from 6:30–7:30pm. Join us as darkness falls for a relaxed Samhain gathering with refreshments, shared food, music and, weather permitting, an outdoor fire ceremony. A simple opportunity to gather together around the fire for remembrance, gratitude and release.

Winter Solstice — booking now open
Monday 21st Dec | 5:30-8:30pm
Looking a little further ahead, booking is also now open for our Winter Solstice / Yule gathering.
This is always such a special evening in the Shala — candlelight, warmth, yoga, meditation, reflection, ritual and deep rest as we honour the longest night and the gradual return of the light.
More information and booking are now available.

Winter Wreath Making is back!
It may feel a little early to be thinking about Christmas, but booking is already underway for my Winter Wreath Making Workshops in December!
We’ll be warm and cosy in the Shala with the log burner going, seasonal music, festive drinks and nibbles, and an abundance of natural foliage and decorations to create your own traditional moss-based wreath.
Saturday 5th December
10:15am–12:45pm — last few spaces
2:30–5pm
Sunday 6th December
10:15am–12:45pm — SOLD OUT
2:30–5pm
Early Bird ÂŁ39 | Regular price ÂŁ45
All materials, foliage, tools, refreshments and guidance are included, and 10% of proceeds will go to Birmingham Hospice.
There are also new Festive Table-Top Decoration Workshops this year on 7th & 8th December.
So if you fancy a few hours of festive creativity — with absolutely no requirement to consider yourself “crafty” — come and join us.
There's certainly plenty happening!
I’m really looking forward to reopening the Shala doors in September and seeing familiar faces again — and hopefully welcoming some new ones too.
Whether you join me each week for yoga, come for half an hour of Friday Stillness, sink into a sound bath, explore yoga more deeply on a Sunday, or gather around the fire at Samhain, you are very warmly welcome.
See you soon.
With love,
Alison .x.
